Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha hi/low starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in just about every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at first, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing range of betting possibilities and seeing that you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, and many trying for the low hand.
