Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players can get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in almost all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
While it seems complicated at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players shooting for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
